Summer is here and tattoos are everywhere - remember to apply sunblock to keep your tattoos from fading! Caroline has left for the summer and this month we welcome back Ashley Apok, who is fully booked for his guest spot. We also welcome Jacquelina travelling from Victoria for her first guest appearance at Rainfire Tattoo. Faye is excelling in her apprenticeship and taking requests for custom pieces in her style. See explanations and samples below. Katia is resuming her monthly design sheet, see below for booking in June & July. There will be another application on August 1st for a Trust Tattoo with Katia at full price.

There was a no-communication rule (including no physical contact) to provide the feeling of isolation. However what I missed the most was music- being able to sing, and hearing songs that were favorable. The tortuous feeling of this meditation was having to sit perfectly still for an hour at a time, 8-10 hours a day. It can get so intense, and the teaching is to remain peaceful and indifferent about the pain, recognizing it as a neutral sensation. In return, the pain is worked through and eventually completely gone. This is something I may be able to coach clients with while they get a tattoo.

Click the photo above if you would like to read the entire article, as it is made shorter here for the newsletter. I hope this has helped you to learn about Vipassana and inspired you to face challenges.

A huge thank you to Amber Lee Artistry. “Castles of the Mind” is the 2nd in a succession of 8 monthly photos with personal stories intended to show more of myself to the world.

Breathing Blossoms by Faye Cantara: “Your hand opens and closes, opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralysed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as birds' wings.” - Rumi

This design is about holding compassion for yourself through challenges, and seeing yourself through to the other side. You are worthy, you are strong, and you are enough.

Convergence by Faye Cantara: “The art of teaching is clarity and the art of learning is to listen.” - Vandana Shiva

There are only a few things more satisfying to me than finding common ground with someone whose ideas don't fully align with yours. When you can honour differences, you're making magic happen.

In Harmony by Faye Cantara: To live in alignment with your spirit is to live your truth and build your life upon it. - Sonia Choquette

I go in and out of a state of harmony - when one's mind, body, and spirit are all in agreement with each other. They align most often in the springtime, when my body feels energetic, I have clarity of mind, and my spirit is light. This design is in celebration of those times.

May Tattoos by Katia Somerville
This tattoo represents a marraige to the self... committing to the discipline of the mind- not judging feelings or reacting, just peacefully witnessing and being present. Tattoo for the beautiful visionary artist, Emily Kell

"Being happy is hard enough, I would never judge you for that." - quote from this client, Meg, during her 'Cascading Castles'. Hours total:5. <3 Katia
There is a sweetness in the pain of missing,
the golden moments.
Knowing you have to go through this to
move on.
Feather weight negates hate,
and swirling steps of love creates.

Accept - then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it.  - Eckhart Tolle

Metropolis: With boldness, strength, and grounded structure, stability is gained in both dark and light. A good 'tickle sesh' for Ryan, who kept laughing throughout today's tattoo, which was a positive change from the funeral he was at in the morning. <3 Katia Somerville

"In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer. " Albert Camus 💛

For an inspiring strong woman emerging from a dark and terrifying chapter of her life. Thank you Alejandra - may this tattoo help you feel your roots in groundlessness, trust your intuition through doubt, and shine your creative light all over us. ☀
"All shadows whisper of the sun. " Emanuel Carnevali
To train in vibrating to higher frequencies. To dare to dream beyond the horizon. To hold the vision of her next adventure so close to her heart that each step takes her through fear and self-doubt. And above all, to remember she is worthy. Period. Thank you so much Karen - see you when the trees turn to fire. ❤
"Harmony doesn't come merely through tolerance. You don't need to tolerate people from other cultural backgrounds. It is time you start loving them. Tolerations may make you a decent person, but it is love that makes you a true human being." Abhijit Naskar
A floral celebration of diverse cultural backgrounds - eastern and western traditions merging, evolving, and shining together. Thank you so much Sheeba for trusting me with your first tattoo! 💖
“We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” ― Dr. Seuss

To celebrate the rich colorful nuances of the soul warming individuals that form her family. Thank you so much Jennifer! 💙💖💚
“it has been one of the greatest and most difficult years of my life. i learned everything is temporary. moments. feelings. people. flowers. i learned love is about giving- everything- and letting it hurt. i learned vulnerability is always the right choice because it is easy to be cold in a world that makes it so very difficult to remain soft. i learned all things come in twos: life and death, pain and joy, sugar and salt, me and you. it is the balance of the universe. it has been the year of hurting so bad but living so good, making friends out of strangers, making strangers out of friends, learning [sweet tea] will fix just about everything and for the pains it can’t, there will always be my mother’s arms. We must learn to focus on warm energy, always. soak our limbs in it and become better lovers to the world, for if we can’t learn to be kinder to each other how will we ever learn to be kinder to the most desperate parts of ourselves.” — rupi kaur

Lily and orchid to honour the strong women in her life. It was such a pleasure, Michelle! Best of luck on your next adventure.
Grateful to my clients for constantly reminding me how amazing people are. This one is about overcoming hesitation and learning to trust our instincts. Hope to see you in the studio again soon, Abby ✨
I met Natalie at the studio a year ago when she received a Trust Tattoo by Katia - she had her upper arm tattooed while blindfolded. Natalie, thank you for extending that trust even further and sharing today with me! You're awesome 🌟
In some parts of the world the peacock represents grace and dignity - in others it is a reminder of patience, kindness, and luck. After spending some time with Erika, I can't think of a more appropriate symbol to mark the next chapter of her journey! Thanks for the laughs ❤
